Raising Awareness of Prostate Cancer Research And Supporting Men’s Mental Health
I’ve signed up for another Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, and the reason I keep coming back is simple – not only does it raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health, two issues that don’t always get the attention or conversation they deserve.
For me, though, it goes deeper than that – I lost my grandfather to prostate cancer. He was a motorcyclist too – in fact, he never even had a car driving licence. Riding feels like a natural way to stay connected to him. It’s my way of honouring his memory, remembering who he was, and doing something – however small – to help prevent other families from experiencing the same loss.

What is the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride?
For those unfamiliar with the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, it brings together riders of classic and vintage-style motorcycles from around the globe to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.
Founded in Sydney, Australia by Mark Hawwa, the event was inspired by an image of Mad Men character Don Draper sitting on a classic motorcycle in a sharp suit. This sparked the idea for a themed ride that would unite niche motorcycle communities while also supporting important causes affecting men.
The ride is a themed event that celebrates the timeless style of both its riders and their motorcycles. The idea is to dress sharp and enjoy the occasion in true dapper fashion alongside fellow gentlefolk.
The DGR events have really made an impact and the numbers speak for themselves:

How Can You Help Support Me And The DGR?
If you’re reading this, I’d really appreciate your support.
- If you can donate/sponsor me, it would mean a lot to me!
- If not, simply sharing this post helps more than you might think.
- And most importantly, check in on the men in your life – those conversations matter.

My local ride is the DGR in Stoke-on-Trent, which has been supported over the years by the team at Staffordshire Triumph. Here are just a few of the photos from previous Distinguished Gentleman’s Rides

Final Thoughts
This ride is about more than just one day on a bike. It’s about carrying forward the memory of those we’ve lost and turning that into something positive. If taking part helps raise awareness, sparks even one important conversation, or contributes in some small way to saving lives, then it’s worth every mile. This one’s for my grandad – and for everyone else affected by prostate cancer and men’s mental health.
