I recently headed into the remote Hellfire Pass in Wales to introduce my role in supporting Biker Down Staffordshire – and there couldn’t have been a better location to demonstrate why this free training is so important.

When you’re riding in a remote location, help may not arrive quickly. Knowing what to do in those crucial first few minutes after a motorcycle incident can make a real difference.

Biker Down is designed to give riders the practical skills and confidence to respond safely and effectively at the scene of a crash.

The workshop covers three main modules:

  • Rider skills
  • Scene safety
  • Casualty care

Over the coming months, I’ll be working closely alongside the Biker Down Staffordshire team to help spread the word about their free workshops, with the aim of getting as many Staffordshire-based bikers trained as possible.

Whether you’re a seasoned rider, a weekend biker or someone who simply wants to be better prepared, this is valuable knowledge that could one day help save a life.

About Biker Down Staffordshire

The Biker Down Staffordshire team brings together experienced motorcyclists and former emergency service personnel, with a distinctive difference: every member of the Staffordshire team has served with the Police. While Biker Down groups across other parts of the UK are often delivered by firefighters, Staffordshire offers a unique policing perspective on motorcycle safety and collision response.

This first-hand experience plays an important role in the Biker Down Staffordshire training sessions. Every team member has attended and dealt with real motorcycle collisions during their policing careers, giving them practical insight into what happens following a motorcycle crash.

The team can therefore explain the process from the initial emergency response and motorcycle collision scene safety through to the factors that may be important when investigating how and why a crash occurred. This real-world policing experience gives Biker Down Staffordshire a valuable and distinctive perspective, helping motorcyclists understand what to do in the aftermath of a collision and how their actions can help keep themselves, other road users and emergency responders safe.

DID YOU KNOW?
Sadly, between 2015 and 2024, 67 motorcyclists lost their lives and 595 were seriously injured on Staffordshire’s roads.
