In today’s digital age, social media influencers hold considerable sway over their followers, shaping trends, opinions, and purchasing decisions across various niches. One such niche that’s been steadily gaining traction is the realm of motorcycle influencers. These riders, armed with cameras and a passion for two-wheeled adventures, have taken to the internet to share their experiences, expertise, and enthusiasm for all things motorcycle-related. But what exactly does it take to be a successful motorcycle influencer? And what are the challenges and rewards that come with this unique pursuit?

Let’s dip our toe into the expansive world of the motorcycle influencer.

Merits of Being a Motorcycle Influencer

Community Building – One of the most significant merits of being a motorcycle influencer is the ability to build and foster a passionate community of like-minded individuals. Through their vlogs, social media posts, and interactions with followers, these influencers create a sense of belonging and camaraderie among fellow riders.

Sharing Knowledge and Expertise – Motorcycle influencers have the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise with a wide audience. From gear reviews and maintenance tips to travel guides and riding techniques, these influencers serve as valuable resources for both novice and seasoned riders alike.

Inspiring Adventure – By documenting their motorcycle journeys, influencers inspire others to embrace adventure, explore new destinations, and push their own boundaries. Their videos and photos capture the thrill of the open road, sparking wanderlust in their viewers.

Challenges Faced by Moto Vloggers

Safety Concerns – Filming while riding poses significant safety risks, requiring moto vloggers to strike a balance between capturing compelling footage and prioritising their own well-being. Distracted riding can lead to accidents, making safety a top priority for these influencers.

Content Creation – Consistently producing engaging content can be challenging, especially for moto vloggers who rely on real-time footage of their rides. Finding new and interesting angles, destinations, and topics to cover requires creativity and innovation.

Monetisation – While many motorcycle influencers are passionate about sharing their experiences, monetising their content can be a daunting task. Generating revenue through sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and merchandise sales requires a substantial following and strategic partnerships.

Let’s explore the generation of revenue in more detail.

Generating Revenue as a Motorcycle Influencer

Sponsorships and Partnerships – Motorcycle influencers can collaborate with brands and companies in the motorcycle industry to promote products and services to their audience. These partnerships often involve sponsored content, product reviews, and affiliate marketing.

Merchandise Sales – Many moto vloggers create branded merchandise, such as apparel, stickers, and accessories, to sell to their followers. These items not only serve as a source of revenue but also help to strengthen the influencer’s brand and foster a sense of community among their audience.

Patreon and Membership Platforms – Some motorcycle influencers leverage Patreon and other membership platforms to offer exclusive content, behind-the-scenes access, and perks to their most dedicated fans in exchange for a monthly subscription fee.

Balancing Influencer Status with Employment

While some motorcycle influencers are able to make a full-time living from their online presence, many others maintain traditional jobs or freelance work to supplement their income. Balancing the demands of being an influencer with the responsibilities of a job can be challenging, requiring effective time management, prioritisation, and flexibility.

Ultimately, being a motorcycle influencer offers a unique blend of rewards and challenges. From building a supportive community and sharing knowledge to navigating safety concerns and monetisation strategies, moto vloggers must navigate a winding road filled with twists and turns. Yet, for those with a passion for motorcycles and a desire to connect with others, the journey is undeniably exhilarating.

Am I a motorcycle influencer?

Putting it into context, at the time of writing, my You Tube channel had a modest 480 subscribers, and my Instagram clocked in at just 3.8K followers. So, calling myself a motorcycle influencer would be a bit of a stretch. But hey, everyone starts somewhere when building their followers and subscribers, right? Well a mere year or two ago, I had zero subscribers on YouTube and only a handful of followers on Instagram. But, I’m slowly but surely gaining traction, and I’m totally cool with that.

It’s all about finding your own cadence; I’ve got a busy family life and a day job as the CEO of a tech company, so my free time for creating motorcycle content is somewhat limited. The last six months saw me focusing my energy mainly on Instagram but I’ll be endeavouring to switch more energy to video creation in 2024. Most importantly, I’m passionate about motorcycling, so I’ll keep dabbling, figuring out what I like, and sharing my own biking escapades.

One final point that is important for me – the documentation of my motorcycle activities should never detract from the actual enjoyment of my motorcycle activities.

So, if you’re thinking about giving motorcycle content creation a whirl, why not? We’ve all got to start somewhere, and who knows, you could be the next big thing like Itchy Boots.

Until next time…work hard, ride safe!
