This weekend marked another enjoyable journey through the picturesque landscapes of the Peak District on my trusty Honda CRF300L. Joined by my good friend Andy, we headed off in the crisp morning air, happy to be back out on our bikes and geared up for a day of local adventure.
We started the day with a visit to the charming Rudyard Lake for a rejuvenating cup of coffee.

Rudyard Lake, nestled amidst the lush greenery, provided the perfect backdrop to start our day. Whilst the main cafe at the lake is popular with walkers and other visitors, we chose to have our coffee in the quieter surroundings of the lake’s sailing club cafe. The serene waters creating a tranquil atmosphere that set a relaxed tone for the day’s ride. The welcoming staff at the sailing club were happy to have a chat and also recommend a few places for lunch that we had not visited previously.
Leaving Rudyard Lake behind, we embarked on an our ride along the tight, twisty lanes of the Peak District. The rain-soaked, muddy roads added an extra layer of challenge, but rarely troubled my capable little Honda. The CRF300L is a nimble handling bike and makes me reminisce about the earlier part of my riding career, where on small capacity bikes I’d also find myself winding my way through the lanes.

If you’ve not visited the Peak District in the UK, then I’d highly recommend it, even at this time of year the vibrant autumn/winter hues still paint the landscape, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Amidst the mist and rain of the afternoon, the previously recommended small village of Thorncliffe emerged as a welcoming stop for a late lunch at the Reform Inn. The warm and inviting atmosphere of the inn provided a cozy refuge from the elements.
Savouring a hearty meal, I reflected on the day’s adventures, surrounded by the camaraderie of my fellow rider and surprisingly, Santa Claus, who had recently attended a local school event and was also in need of refreshments.

The Reform Inn, was a real gem, with its rustic charm, offered a perfect blend of comfort and character, making it an ideal spot to recharge before the wet ride home in the rain. It’s a friendly place and the landlady and locals were very welcoming, making for yet another memorable pit stop that encapsulated the spirit of the Peak District.

So another successful day’s riding had to come to an end. The winding roads of the Peaks had led us through breathtaking vistas and hidden gems throughout the day, reinforcing why this region of the UK is a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts.
In the end, my day spent riding through the Peak District on the Honda CRF300L was yet another blend of challenging terrain, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality.
