If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being part of the motorcycle community on Instagram, it’s that two-wheeled adventures can lead to incredible experiences and new friendships. Recently, I embarked on a journey that perfectly encapsulated this sentiment – a trip to Manchester with my motorcycle buddies to capture some stunning bike photos.

The day began with an exhilarating ride across the picturesque Peak District, starting from my home in Staffordshire. Autumn was in the air, and the cool temperatures served as a reminder that winter was just around the corner. Along the way, I made a few pit stops to capture some breathtaking scenery and grab a quick breakfast to warm up for the day ahead.

After a little over an hour on the road, I reached our designated meeting point on the iconic Snake Pass. This road, nestled in the Peak District, is renowned among motorcyclists for its winding paths and breathtaking vistas. It was the perfect place to start our adventure.

The primary purpose of our trip was to capture some shots of our beloved motorcycles. This opportunity had arisen thanks to Rich, a fellow motorcycle enthusiast and an Instagram buddy I had known for a few years. We both owned and shared a passion for the BMW R9T, and our initial meeting had taken place at the Bike Shed show in London. Ever since that encounter, we had been promising to explore the Peak District together. Finally, the day had come for us to unite.

Let’s skip to the good part

Accompanying Rich and myself was Aaron, a new acquaintance for me. Together, we rode into the heart of Manchester, a city with its own unique charm. Rich, had the most local knowledge, so played the role of our tour guide, leading us to some fantastic locations where we could capture the essence of our bikes.

Rich was astride his new Triumph Scrambler 1200XE, Aaron rode his BMW GS1200, and I was proudly seated on my 1978 Honda CB750 café racer project bike.

Bringing out the big guns

While my iPhone has always served as my trusty camera when out on my motorbike, I couldn’t help but feel a bit outgunned as the guys wielded their professional cameras. Nevertheless, they weren’t just equipped with the gear; they also possessed the skills to create magic behind the lens.

Joining the Dots

One of the most intriguing locations we explored was the old DOT Motorcycle factory. This piece of history, located in Manchester, had given birth to motorcycles since 1903. The story of DOT Motorcycles is a captivating one, and I couldn’t help but be inspired to delve deeper into its history after our visit.

Stealing the show

My CB750, it seemed, was destined to be the star of the show, as the guys worked their photography wizardry to capture its essence. The results were nothing short of spectacular, as you can see from the photographs.

The journey wasn’t all about photography, though. We had our share of stops around the city, and capturing moments along the way. We popped into a motorcycle cafe called Palour Supply Co, certainly worth as visit if you are heading into Manchester.

Eventually, we had to bid adieu to Manchester and headed our separate ways. The trip back to Staffordshire took an unexpected turn as the heavens opened, drenching me in torrential rain. But my trusty CB750 safely delivered me home.

As I settled down with a steaming cup of tea, the photos from the day started pouring in. I was overwhelmed by the quality of the pictures. While I may not be a photography expert, I know a good shot when I see one. Both Rich and Aaron had done a spectacular job of capturing my bike and even making me look good in the process.

If you share a passion for motorcycling and motorcycle photography, I highly recommend following Rich and Aaron on their journeys. As for me, I’ll stick to my iPhone camera for now, eagerly awaiting the chance to ride with Rich and Aaron again. Perhaps next time, I’ll figure out a way to pull my weight a little more in the photography department.

Until our next adventure, ride safe, capture the moment, and keep the spirit of motorcycling alive.
