Embarking our motorcycle ride through the picturesque landscapes of the Italian Alps has been simply breathtaking. In this blog post, I take you on the next leg of our journey from the enchanting town of Stelvio, traversing the awe-inspiring Dolomites, and finally arriving at the breathtaking shores of Lake Garda.

After riding famous Stelvio Pass in the day we stayed in the quiet town of Stelvio. Located in the South Tyrol region of northern Italy, Stelvio is surrounded by towering peaks and alpine meadows, and the town exudes a quaint charm and relaxed pace of life.

As we leave Stelvio, the rain started to fall, lightly at first but within a hour the heavens opened and we were treated to an almighty thunderstorm. Rain flowed across the road like a river so we steadied our pace, donned our water proofs and slowed pushed on to the Dolomites.

These majestic mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site, boast striking peaks, rock formations, and lush valleys. Unfortunately as the weather was so bad we decided against doing the Sella and Falzarego Passes and pushed south to try and get out of the bad weather.

As our journey concluded at the stunning Lake Garda, the temperature was now in the late 20s, and the skies were blue, a far cry from the thunderstorms and dark skies we experienced earlier in the day. This vast glacial lake, Italy’s largest, is nestled amidst lush hills and surrounded by picturesque towns, such as the one we stayed in, San Zeno di Montagna. We checked in dumped our soaked gear and headed for a well earned beer.

Conclusion:
The motorcycle ride from the town of Stelvio to Lake Garda via the Dolomites proved to be the toughest part of our European Trip so far. The weather was testing to say the least and whilst we were not able to experience the best of Italy’s alpine landscapes in the Dolomites, we will certainly be back to do the Dolomite passes in the future. As for Lake Garda, it is simply stunning, the views are magnificent and our evening was wrapped up by a great meal and the company of some new friends.
