Join me as I wind back a year to July 2022, where I undertook a little trip to Spain, did a bit of riding and filmed a couple of Moto Vlogs in the process.

For my Spanish adventure, I first needed a bike, so I hired Yamaha Tenere 700, so let’s start there.

BIKE HIRE

The Tenere was the perfect companion for my Spanish trip, a renowned adventure bike built for exploration. It was hired from the very helpful team at Yamaha Moto Mercardo in Marbella – Jac and Danny were very good, so give them a shout on Tel.: +34 952 86 76 78

They are located on Avda. Ricardo Soriano, 76 Marbella

LOCATION

I based myself in a villa in Marbella, as I felt this was the best option as it had safe off road parking and of course I could jump in the pool after each day of riding in the hot Spanish sun.

Marbella serves as the ideal starting point, known for its glamorous beaches and luxurious resorts, this vibrant city offers a stark contrast to the rugged beauty I encountered as I took different trips out each day from the villa to explore the surrounding towns and mountains.

However, this blog will focus on my favourite route from my trip, the route from Marbella to Ronda.

MARBELLA TO RONDA

Having prepared the Tenere for the road, and set up my cameras, I set off towards the north, leaving behind the bustling streets and venturing into the breath-taking Andalusian countryside.

When it comes to exhilarating motorcycle rides through scenic landscapes Spain takes some beating, but few routes can match the sheer beauty and excitement of the journey from Marbella to Ronda. In just a few minutes from the centre of Marbella you join the thrilling A-397 road to Ronda, where you’ll encounter swooping curves, stunning vistas, and charming towns and villages that will leave you with lasting memories.

Riding the A-397 is a motorcyclist’s dream. With its winding stretches, perfectly carved curves, and awe-inspiring landscapes, this route offers an unparalleled riding experience. As you navigate through the majestic Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, be prepared to witness some of the most captivating vistas in southern Spain.

While the journey from Marbella to Ronda is undoubtedly captivating, it’s the surrounding towns and villages that also enhanced the experience. One such gem is Istán, a picturesque white village nestled among the mountains. Its narrow streets and traditional Andalusian charm make it a perfect spot to take a break and immerse yourself in the local culture.

I also visited the village of Ojén, known for its narrow, winding streets and its fascinating history. I’d recommend you take a moment to explore the town’s quaint plazas and enjoy a cup of coffee at a local café.

Two other gems were El Bosque and Ubrique, you can see these towns for yourself in my Vlog below.

ARRIVING AT RONDA

A jewel in the mountains, as you approach the town of Ronda, it reveals itself like a hidden treasure. Perched dramatically on a cliff, Ronda is renowned for its breath-taking views and historical landmarks. The Puente Nuevo, an iconic bridge spanning the El Tajo gorge, offers an unforgettable sight. Most people would take the route across the bridge into the town, in order to revel in the beauty from up high; however, a little tip is to find the Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo (Lookout Point) as I did. It offers a very different view of Rhoda and the El Tajo gorge. Check out my VLOG and you can see for yourself as I send my drone up for a closer look.

Looking up to the Puente Nuevo in Ronda

Exploring Ronda’s old town, you’ll find a wealth of architectural wonders, including the Mondragon Palace and the Ronda Bullring, one of the oldest and most iconic bullrings in Spain. The town’s vibrant atmosphere, rich history, and delicious cuisine make it an ideal place to rest and reflect on a remarkable route.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Riding the Yamaha Tenere from Marbella to Ronda along the A-397 road is an adventure that combines the thrill of motorcycling with the unparalleled beauty of southern Spain’s landscapes. The road’s swooping curves and stunning views provide an exhilarating experience, while the surrounding towns and villages offer charming cultural encounters. Ronda, with its breath-taking sights and rich history, serves as a fitting finale to this unforgettable journey. So, if you want to gear up, hop on your own hired Yamaha Tenere (other bikes are available), and embark on an adventure that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime, I’d highly recommend it.
